F_in workshop in Hamburg

News - 18 January 2010

The fifth workshop of the network F_in “Women in football” in Hamburg was a great success. This time the theme was “Cooking and Violence” and nearly 30 participants from Germany, Austria and Sweden came together between 8 and 10 January to swap stories and experiences and to discuss the topic of “violence” with regard to repression and discrimination in two work groups.

Several participants presented their projects and activities, like the organisation “Fotbollsalliansen/Fryshuset” in Sweden, the charity tournament and concert event “Goodball” in Vienna or the various activities against discrimination and racism in the Fortuna Düsseldorf fan scene.

On Saturday afternoon talking about football and fans had to give way to actually playing, and with a handicap. Members of the blind football team (known to FSE members perhaps from the fan congress 2009) of local Bundesliga side St. Pauli came to present their football and gave us a very impressive training session to show some basic principles and rules of playing football “in the dark”. Equipped with dark glasses we fumbled around, tried to control the ball as good as we could and even took shots at the goal. A huge thank you for this inspiring and interesting lesson which made us better understand the reality of blind players a lot more and showed how difficult and challenging the sport is. One female member of the team joined us also for the second part of our workshop motto, the cooking program. For those who are interested: The perfect dinner by F_in consisted of tomato soup, pizza and fruit salad.
The last day of the workshop was dedicated to developing ideas and projects for future activities and discussing the perspective and possibility of more international networking. The workshop like earlier F_in events was supported by the Koordinationsstelle Fanprojekte (KOS) www.kos-fanprojekte.de, the German Fan Project Coordination Centre Coordination. Further support came this year from Football Supporters Europe, FSE www.footballsupporterseurope.org.
