Although summer time is the high season for tourism, inaccessible transport and tourism services represent a barrier to freedom of movement.
The European Commission has just adopted a communication on tourism which proposes to include better persons with disabilities: A perfect opportunity for the disability movement to remind how to guarantee freedom of movement in Europe.
The latest communication from the Commission reminds tourism plays an important role in our economy. It comprises 1.8 million enterprises, many of these being small and medium-sized businesses. Nevertheless, persons with disabilities still experience major obstacles to access mainstream transport and tourism services, although this is a basic right which disabled people should be able as every other citizens.
